Ok, what we are looking at today is an Amana washer today where the customer complaint is that it will not drain. So I hear the pump running but it’s making an odd noise so I am going to remove the inner basket and I am going to check for an obstruction and then we are going to replace the pump.
The first thing we are going to do is I have to get to the back and let loose the top panel so I can take the tub out, that’s what I am going to do, bring this around so I have access to the back panel, the screws are holding the top on, I am going to take out the screw here, I am also going to take out this one other screw on the side, pull that out, that will allow me to hinge the top.
Remove the Clothes Guard To Get Full Access
I am going to remove this clothes guard, you push it down and then you flex it. Now I have to remove the fabric softener dispenser. Also, there is a cover, we will remove that as well and there is a seven screw. Ok, what we are going to do is remove the spanner nut, you do have to have a special wrench to do that. So we are going to lift straight up, remove the tub, I am going to remove the pump cover and, as you can see, there are clothes down into the pump, that’s what’s causing the pump not to run.
So now I am going to reattach the inlet valve and then we are going to reassemble the tub and I am going to go down and replace the pump. Ok, we are going to reinstall the tub, the tubs sits on there, there are a couple of brackets, make sure you get those put back into place, they fit into the hub, just hit it with the hammer one time to make sure that it’s good and seated and then you just put your hub back on and then we are going to put the clothes guard back into place carefully, then all you have to do is once you get it lined up, just push down and you will hear a series of clicks, that’s when you know you have it in place, so it’s good to go ahead and check them anyway. So now I am going to put it back in, taking out the screw, nice and tight.
Then you want to push the cover back into place and then reinstall your fabric softener, now we are going to put the top back down, we are going to put the hinge screws back in, put the cover back on and now we are going to flip the machine because we are going to replace the pump from the bottom. Now I am going to move the wiring harness from the unit and this pump has three five sixteen screws, I am going to remove them and that will allow me to drop the pump.
The pump will drop down then what I am going to do is I am going to remove this clamp with my clamp pliers and remove the drain hose, basically, to install it, just do the reverse so I am going to do the hose back on and clamp it, I like to have it clamped near the end so that way, it gets a good clamping force, if you put it too far out, what can happen is that it will pinch and it will actually, over time, shoot that hose off and you will have a major leak so then to push the pump back up, all you do is just push it back into place and reattach the three screws, you don’t want to forget to reattach your wire.
Now we can put the machine back right and give it a test to make sure everything is working properly. Ok what we are going to do now is run a quick test to make sure everything is working and basically that completes our repair on this Amana washing machine.
