Today I am going to talk to you about is a situation right here that’s very common, not only in the kitchen area but throughout your house… you have one light off and light on. Well the reason why this is off is because it has come loose on the inside so we are going to talk about that next. What you need to do is turn the power off, something we learned to do with all our electric appliance repairs from our training with our friends at Chicago Appliance Masters. So we are simply going to go to the source, the switch and turn it off completely, this is a dimmer switch so I will make sure I pushed it all the way down.
I am trying to get the light bulb out of the socket, I realised that this is a little bit more difficult than what I thought and all the times when you are going a repair like this, you get into a situation where it’s called discovery, so one of the things that I discovered is that the socket has come loose from the place where it was holding so now what I have got do is take the light apart from up here so we are going to do that now.
As I have taken this loose, what I am going to do is… you want to make sure that there is no power here and I have already turned that off and the switch so what I do is I still treat every wire as if it was live, I don’t touch the ends as I take wire heads off so I am going to take this and screw this back on there and I am going to disconnect this wire here which is the next one.
I have also taken the light itself out of the work inside so after I remove that, now I just simply and carefully remove the casing, and let’s take a close look at that now. Here the casing has been removed and this is twisted, so what I have got to do is very carefully… because this is porcelain, it will break, as you can see the wires are twisted which is no big deal, they still have the integrity that they need but what I have got to do now is straighten this out so let’s do that.
There are two screws here and then one screw that is not visible from the outside so I have to go on the inside and there is the screw there so simply place a Phillips head inside, disconnect this part and there is the part that I need to straighten out so make sure that you put all of your screws and all your parts together and not lose them because you will need that coming back, alright so we are ready to fix this now.
Alright so we straightened it out, now what I have done on the inside, I went ahead and reattached this piece because now I have got to think backward so instead of putting the piece back on here and then screwing this end, putting the wire in, I had to think the other way around, how this was manufactured, so when I had put that little piece that I straightened back in and I have this right here secured as well, so now the issue for me is to get the wire back into this hole right here all the way through and feed back like this one is so what I am going to do is the next step.
